Hong Kong’s universities have finally made it to the top 50 in Asia after four years. It’s a big deal, guys. The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings for 2025 were published last Thursday, and six universities from Hong Kong are basking in the glory of being among the top 50 in the region. Baptist University, which was chilling at 63rd place last year, has suddenly jumped to 50th place. Talk about a glow-up.

Back in 2016 and 2017, Hong Kong only had six institutions in the top 50. Baptist University was doing pretty well back then, ranking 44th and 49th, but then it decided to take a little break from the spotlight. Now, it’s back and better than ever.

The University of Hong Kong is still hanging out at sixth place, while the Chinese University of Hong Kong has moved up a notch to ninth place. Looks like they’re kicking some serious academic butt. HKUST is chilling at 12th place, and PolyU has moved up from 19th to 18th. CityU, though, has taken a little stumble and is now in 16th place. Ups and downs, am I right?

Over in Mainland China, Tsinghua University is still the king of the hill, holding onto the top spot for the seventh year running. Peking University is a close second, keeping its spot for the sixth year. So, Hong Kong is finally making its mark in the academic world. Good for them.
