Government Task Force Concludes Visit to Thailand – RTHK

The government’s task force, led by Under Secretary for Security Michael Cheuk, has wrapped up its visit to Thailand in a bid to assist Hong Kong residents who were allegedly coerced into illegal work in Southeast Asian countries. The task force arrived in Thailand on Sunday and engaged in crucial discussions and meetings with key stakeholders to address the pressing issue.

Meeting with Thai Authorities

During their visit, Cheuk and his team met with Thailand’s senior inspector general Thatchai Pitaneelaboot to exchange intelligence and discuss strategies to combat transnational crimes. Pitaneelaboot reassured the task force of Thailand’s commitment to strengthening efforts to prevent such illicit activities and ensure the safe return of affected Hong Kong residents.

Engagement with Tourism Officials

Additionally, Cheuk held discussions with Thailand’s vice minister for tourism and sports, Jakkaphon Tangsutthitham, and the commissioner of the tourist police bureau, Saksira Pheuak-um. These meetings focused on gaining insights into the latest measures implemented to safeguard tourists in Thailand, including Hong Kong residents.

Collaboration with Thai National Police

Members of the task force also met with Deputy Commissioner General of the Thai National Police, Prachuab Wongsuk, to provide updates on the cases involving Hong Kong residents. The discussions aimed to shed light on the current situation and explore potential avenues for cooperation between the two parties.

Expressing gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and local authorities, Cheuk emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to address the needs of Hong Kong residents seeking assistance. The government’s commitment to maintaining close communication with relevant stakeholders was reiterated to ensure the provision of necessary support and guidance to those affected.
