Well, like, apparently, members of the public can, like, take pictures near the “prohibited places” owned by Beijing’s national security office in Hong Kong. The authorities were all like, “Yeah, sure, go ahead and snap a pic if you want, as long as you’re not trying to mess with national security or anything.” This whole thing went down after a journalist got stopped from taking photos in those areas, which caused a bit of a stir.
According to the government, it’s totally fine for regular folks to just do a quick check-in and take a selfie near a prohibited spot while they’re passing by. But if you start recording videos of the entrances or inside the prohibited area on purpose, you might be asked to leave by the law enforcement peeps. And if they think you’re causing a threat to national security with your behavior, they’ll kick you out too. Oh, and if you don’t listen to them, you could get in trouble with the law. They didn’t really talk about what the rules are for journalists, though.
So, like, there was this whole thing in the news about a journalist who got threatened with getting arrested because they were trying to snap some pics of a forbidden location. The government had to come out and clarify the whole situation to avoid any more drama. But who really knows what the deal is with all this, right? It’s kind of confusing, but I guess they’re just trying to keep things safe and secure in the end.
