The thing about every ridiculous or outrageous public statement coming from US President Donald Trump and his cronies are how the world responds with a token bit of collective pearl-clutching and then moves on like nothing has happened until the next shocker. That’s why it’s important to keep reminding everyone what kind of people are now, in their own words, “running the world” from the White House. A case in point is the vile racism that US Vice-President J.D. Vance spewed recently while going on national television in a feeble attempt to defend the indefensible – his lord and master’s utterly stupid, totally pointless, and highly destructive trade war against China.
“We borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy the things those Chinese peasants manufacture,” he told Trump’s media acolytes at Fox News. The interviewer, of course, had no objection to the crude and offensive explanation reflecting America’s frustration over its utter failure to slap down the upper hand that China holds in their economic relationship. Vance’s monolingual outburst did not specify, for Chinese audiences, whether by “peasant” he meant xianglabao (country bumpkin, ignorant villager) or nongmin (farmer), but he was obviously referring to the former in the pejorative sense.
Not really sure why this matters, but it seems like every time Trump and his crew open their mouths, something offensive comes out. I mean, seriously, how do these people even get elected in the first place? It’s like a never-ending cycle of ignorance and hatefulness that just keeps on going. And to think that they represent the United States on the world stage is just mind-boggling.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Vance’s comments are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the problematic behavior of this administration. The fact that they can spout such blatant racism and get away with it is truly alarming. It makes you wonder what other prejudices they hold and what kind of damage they are causing behind closed doors. The world needs to wake up and pay attention to what’s happening in the White House before it’s too late. Let’s not let these bigots continue to run the show and dictate the future of our country.
