Public Housing Abuse Reporting Scheme Offers Cash Rewards
Starting from January 15, individuals in Hong Kong who report illegal use of public housing can now earn up to HK$3,000 through the new Report Public Housing Abuse Award scheme. The Housing Authority made this announcement on Wednesday as part of their efforts to crack down on tenants who violate rules and misuse public housing resources.
How to Report Public Housing Abuse
Individuals aged 16 and above can report any instances of misuse through various channels, including online forms, hotlines, email, and estate offices. The goal of this initiative is to encourage the public to come forward with information that can help authorities take necessary actions against rule-breakers.
Confidentiality and Assessment Process
The Housing Authority has assured that the identities of informants will be kept confidential. However, individuals must provide their real name when reporting and be prepared for an interview as part of the assessment process. An assessment panel will carefully review each case, especially those that are more complex, before making final decisions.
Enhanced Measures to Combat Tenancy Abuse
In a statement, the Housing Authority emphasized the importance of receiving investigative clues from the public to uncover hidden cases of tenancy abuse. Since implementing new measures to combat such abuse, the authority has already identified several cases that were relatively easy to detect. By encouraging more people to report violations, the Housing Authority aims to ensure the fair and proper use of public housing resources for those who truly need them.
