MTR Hong Kong to Extend Operating Hours on December 24 and 31

The MTR in Hong Kong has exciting news for commuters this holiday season! In a bid to facilitate those partaking in festive celebrations, the MTR announced on Tuesday that its trains will be operating overnight on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Extended Operating Hours

Starting from 3pm on December 24 and 31, trains on eight railway lines will run more frequently. Not only that, but overnight services will also be provided, ensuring that commuters can easily travel to and from their holiday festivities. However, do keep in mind that the Airport Express, Disneyland Resort Line, and the section between Sheung Shui, Lo Wu, and Lok Ma Chau on the East Rail Line will not offer overnight services.

Additional Train Trips

To accommodate the increased demand during the holiday season, the MTR has announced that an additional 2,200 train trips will be provided on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. This means less waiting time and more convenience for passengers looking to get around the city.

Gradual Enhancements

In addition to the extended operating hours on December 24 and 31, the MTR will gradually enhance its train services starting from Friday until January 1. This ensures that commuters continue to enjoy efficient and reliable transportation services throughout the holiday period.

Future Arrangements

The government has also been proactive in ensuring smooth travel experiences for commuters. Requests have been submitted to mainland authorities to extend the service hours at two border checkpoints on New Year’s Eve. The MTR has confirmed that it will make further arrangements to align with these proposed extensions.

As the holiday season approaches, the MTR’s decision to extend its operating hours comes as a welcome relief to many commuters. Whether you’re heading to a festive gathering or simply trying to get home after a night of celebrations, the extended services will undoubtedly make your journey more convenient and enjoyable. So mark your calendars for December 24 and 31, and rest assured that the MTR has got your back this holiday season!
