Residents in Fuji, Shizuoka prefecture, Japan are not too happy about a local government’s decision to promote a bridge as the ultimate Instagram-worthy spot to capture Mount Fuji. Yeah, it was supposed to be a big hit and attract loads of tourists to the area, but things have totally backfired. The place known as the “Mount Fuji dream bridge” has caused a stir among the locals due to illegal parking and all the crazy noise pollution.
So, picture this – on a nice, clear day in April, over 50 peeps were waiting in line to snap some shots at a staircase that looks like it’s taking you right up to the tippy-top of Japan’s tallest mountain, Mount Fuji, standing tall at 3,776 meters (12,400 feet). Like, can you even imagine the chaos? Zhu Yihao, a dude from Shanghai, China, was all about getting some “beautiful and unique” pics at this hotspot. Since being built in 2016 to link two major roads, the bridge has been pulling in around 1,000 folks on certain days. The city government is all about encouraging visitors to share their pics on social media but also reminding them to keep it down. They’ve got signs up in different languages warning tourists and even offer free parking. But, maybe it’s just me, but it seems like things aren’t going quite as planned.
