Chief Executive John Lee Engages with Hongkongers at North Point
Chief Executive John Lee made a strategic move to engage with the community by visiting the harbourfront boardwalk in North Point on Saturday. The 2.2-kilometre walkway, built under the Island Eastern Corridor, was the perfect setting for Lee to interact with Hongkongers and even squeeze in an impromptu jog.
New Features and Development Plans for the Boardwalk
The boardwalk is designed to cater to a variety of users, including pedestrians, joggers, cyclists, and pet owners. It will feature viewing platforms and shared spaces for recreational activities. Additionally, movable bridges will be installed to allow vessels access to the inner waters, enhancing the overall functionality of the boardwalk.
The Development Bureau has announced that the section from Fortress Hill to North Point will be open to the public by the Lunar New Year, with the section between North Point and Quarry Bay set to open in phases in the second half of the year. Once completed, the 13-kilometre harbourfront promenade will connect Kennedy Town in the west with Shau Kei Wan in the east of Hong Kong Island.
Lee’s Personal Reflection on the Scenery and Community Interaction
After the inspection, Lee invited some Hongkongers to join him for a jog along the boardwalk. Reflecting on his experience, he shared, “Whether you run, jog, or cycle along the boardwalk, the scenery is amazing. It’s nice to take in the views in a busy schedule, and Hong Kong is a beautiful place to call home.”
Lee’s initiative to engage with the community on a personal level demonstrates his commitment to fostering a stronger connection between the government and the people of Hong Kong. As the city continues to evolve and develop, projects like the harbourfront boardwalk serve as a reminder of the importance of creating spaces that enhance the quality of life for residents.
