Police took eight men into custody in connection with an attack on a prison officer outside Pik Uk prison in Sai Kung. The incident occurred yesterday when three masked individuals carrying “long hard objects” assaulted the officer while he was waiting for a bus near the prison around 12:50 pm.
The assailants, aged between 16 and 37 and believed to have ties to a triad organization, quickly escaped in a private vehicle with a counterfeit license plate. Superintendent Lam Kai-chor revealed that the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the assault. However, there is no indication at this time that the attack is linked to the victim’s financial situation or personal life.
The victim sustained six lacerations measuring five to 10 centimeters on his head and upper limbs, as well as a fractured right wrist. He is currently in stable condition and receiving medical treatment at the hospital. Additionally, during the commotion, the attackers also struck a 33-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter, causing minor injuries. Fortunately, both individuals were treated at the hospital and discharged without any complications.
Superintendent Lam Kai-chor did not dismiss the possibility of making more arrests in connection with the assault. The police are working diligently to apprehend all individuals involved in the attack and ensure that justice is served.
