The Hong Kong Observatory announced on Saturday that the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 will continue to be in effect until at least 10 pm. They mentioned that local winds are expected to become stronger, accompanied by a few squally showers as the winds shift towards the east later on.
As Typhoon Trami passed by, it intensified into a typhoon in the morning, staying around 500 kilometers south of Hong Kong. This prompted the Observatory to issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 10:40 am on Saturday.
In response to the inclement weather conditions, the Education Bureau decided to suspend classes for kindergartens and schools catering to children with physical and intellectual disabilities for the day. Additionally, the Hong Kong Food Carnival had to be postponed due to the typhoon.
The Tourism Commission also announced the cancellation of the popular light-and-sound show, “A Symphony of Lights.” However, despite these closures, the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival will continue as usual, with the Harbour Lounge being the only area closed off to visitors.
Looking ahead, the Observatory anticipates that the winds will gradually ease off on Sunday morning as Typhoon Trami moves further away from the region. Residents are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions during this period of inclement weather.
It is essential to stay informed about the latest updates from the Hong Kong Observatory and follow their guidelines to ensure personal safety and well-being during typhoon season. Stay tuned for further announcements and take care during this period of potentially hazardous weather conditions.
