RTHK recently co-hosted a special outdoor show at Victoria Park in Hong Kong, in collaboration with the public broadcaster in Indonesia. The event featured live performances from local and Indonesian singers and dancers, including popular Indonesian singer Nabilla Gomes and Hong Kong singer Lagchun. The goal of the show was to strengthen the bond between the people of Hong Kong and Indonesia, in line with the cooperation priorities of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

This partnership between RTHK and the Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) was solidified in February with the signing of a memorandum of understanding. Together, they produced a radio programme called “Halo Jakarta! Hello Hong Kong!” in Bahasa, which was broadcast on both stations. This collaboration highlights the importance of cultural exchange and people-to-people connections in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative.

During the event at Victoria Park, Eddie Cheung, the Director of Broadcasting at RTHK, emphasized the significance of the celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Day and the opportunity for the programme to engage with the audience in an outdoor setting. He praised Hong Kong for being an open and inclusive society that values cultural exchange and cooperation with other nations.

The Indonesian Consul-General, Yul Edison, also spoke at the event, highlighting the role of media in connecting people, breaking down stereotypes, and addressing misinformation. He emphasized the growing importance of fostering international connections through joint programmes and events like the one organized by RTHK and RRI.

Overall, the outdoor show at Victoria Park served as a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration between Hong Kong and Indonesia, showcasing the power of media in bringing people together and promoting mutual understanding. Events like these play a crucial role in building bridges between nations and fostering relationships based on shared values and interests. Through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative, countries can continue to strengthen their ties and promote cooperation on a global scale.
