Barristers in private practice are basically like freelancers – we are our own bosses and can pretty much do whatever we want, whenever we want. No need to clock in or out, and we can even choose to work from home if we feel like it. It’s like we are the OGs of remote work, but back in the day, it was a whole different story.

Back in the day, we had to deal with physical copies of case papers, which meant lugging around heavy bags of documents if we wanted to work from home. And don’t even get me started on the case authorities and textbooks, which were all on bookshelves in chambers. If you wanted to take them home, you better be ready to carry some serious weight. So, it’s no surprise that barristers were pretty much stuck in chambers when they had work to do. It was a primitive time for working from home, that’s for sure.

But hey, times have changed, and now we can embrace the freedom of working remotely without having to worry about all that physical paperwork. It’s a whole new world for barristers, and we’re definitely making the most of it. Who knew we could be so ahead of the curve when it comes to remote work? Not me, that’s for sure.
