Chief Secretary Eric Chan shared that a recent three-day trip to the Greater Bay Area provided valuable insights into the development of the Northern Metropolis project in Hong Kong’s New Territories. The visit, which included government officials and business leaders, was deemed successful in achieving its objectives.
Chan emphasized that the purpose of the trip was primarily for introduction and exchange, rather than soliciting investments from business representatives. The focus was on showcasing potential business opportunities to experts in the field, who could then engage in discussions with interested parties.
One of the highlights of the visit was the signing of 126 economic and trade cooperation projects between enterprises from Guangdong and Hong Kong, with a combined value exceeding 100 billion yuan. This collaboration signifies a significant step towards enhancing economic ties between the two regions.
Moreover, the delegation gained insights into a development model utilized in mainland cities, characterized by large-scale, land-disposable projects. The Hong Kong government aims to leverage this approach to accelerate the progress of the Northern Metropolis initiative.
Looking ahead, a promotional event related to the mega project is set to take place on Friday, with the participation of local, mainland, and foreign companies. Finance chief Paul Chan is currently finalizing the event’s specifics and is expected to provide further details in the near future.
The trip to the Greater Bay Area not only facilitated valuable exchanges and partnerships but also paved the way for potential investments and collaborations that could drive the development of Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis. As the government continues to explore innovative approaches and opportunities, the region’s economic landscape stands to benefit from enhanced connectivity and cooperation with neighboring regions.
