Julio Eduardo Orozco Pérez, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, is scheduled to visit Taiwan for diplomatic talks. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced that Orozco’s five-day visit will involve meetings with local government officials and participation in a sustainable cities and energy exhibition.
During his visit, Orozco will meet with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and attend a banquet hosted by Taiwan’s Vice Foreign Minister Remus Chen. He will also engage with various government departments and organizations, including the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan office of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.
Orozco’s itinerary includes visits to Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) and the Overseas Investment & Development Corp. These organizations focus on international cooperation to advance Taiwan’s diplomatic goals and are involved in global aid projects.
In addition to his diplomatic engagements, Orozco will speak at the 2024 SDG Asia exhibition on sustainable cities and energy. The exhibition is set to take place from Thursday to Saturday. Before concluding his visit, Orozco will tour the Hsinchu Science Park, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and the National Palace Museum. These visits aim to familiarize Orozco with Taiwan’s latest advancements and promote Taiwanese investment in Guatemala.
This visit marks Orozco’s first trip to Taiwan since assuming his role as Vice Minister in January. Guatemala is among the 12 countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China.
As Taiwan continues to strengthen its international partnerships, Orozco’s visit underscores the importance of diplomatic relations between Guatemala and Taiwan. It also presents an opportunity for both countries to explore potential areas of collaboration and exchange expertise in sustainable development and energy initiatives.
