Education minister Christine Choi revealed on Saturday that a concerning discovery had been made regarding the use of fake DSE certificates in university applications in Macau. It was reported that 20 individuals had attempted to apply to the Macau University of Science and Technology using forged certificates.
During a radio programme, Choi expressed her outrage at the situation and assured the public that steps were being taken to address the issue. The university had suspected the authenticity of the documents and promptly reached out to the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) for verification.
Choi emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of academic qualifications and urged anyone with doubts about their DSE results to seek assistance. The HKEAA keeps a comprehensive record of DSE results and is equipped to verify their validity.
In response to these fraudulent cases, the authorities have taken the necessary action by reporting the incidents to the police. Choi also highlighted previous instances where individuals had used fake academic qualifications to gain admission to universities in Hong Kong, prompting stricter scrutiny of all applications moving forward.
Furthermore, Choi disclosed that a task group focused on establishing the SAR’s third medical school would convene for its second meeting later in the month. She emphasized the significance of thorough evaluation and emphasized that universities interested in participating should carefully review their proposals and qualifications.
Choi stressed that the process of setting up the medical school should not be rushed, and universities should prioritize quality over speed in submitting their proposals. By encouraging a meticulous review of qualifications and requirements, the task group aims to ensure the successful establishment of the SAR’s third medical school without compromising on standards or credibility.
