The University of Cambridge and City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have come together to offer scholarships to up to 20 students annually for postgraduate studies at Cambridge. This initiative aims to provide funding of HK$10 million for students to pursue a one-year, full-time master’s program at Lucy Cavendish College, a prominent constituent college at Cambridge.

CityU president Freddy Boey expressed his hopes for the students who participate in this program, emphasizing the goal of creating global graduates from Hong Kong. While the program encourages students to stay at Lucy Cavendish College, there is no obligation for them to return to Hong Kong upon completion. Boey believes that these graduates will represent their alma mater proudly around the world.

The scholarship program, set to run for five years initially, will also consider applications from students outside of CityU if the allocated slots are not filled. President of Lucy Cavendish College, Madeleine Atkins, highlighted the inclusive nature of the program, welcoming graduates from various disciplines. She mentioned that Hong Kong students are highly competitive candidates for master’s programs at Cambridge.

Atkins stressed the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, noting that the world’s challenges often require solutions that transcend individual fields of study. By bringing together students from diverse academic backgrounds, the program fosters an environment where students can learn from each other’s perspectives and work together on projects and teams.

In addition to the scholarship program, CityU has joined forces with Lucy Cavendish College for the Future Global Leaders Programme. This partnership aims to equip students with the necessary skills to address urgent global issues, preparing them to become leaders in their respective fields.

Overall, the collaboration between the University of Cambridge, City University of Hong Kong, and Lucy Cavendish College provides an exciting opportunity for students to pursue advanced studies and contribute to a more interconnected and innovative global community.
