Xi Jinping to Attend Macau 25th Handover Anniversary and Sam Hou-fai Inauguration
Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit Macau next week to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the former Portuguese colony’s handover to China. According to the state news agency Xinhua, Xi will also participate in the inauguration of Macau’s new administration and conduct an inspection tour during his visit from December 18 to December 20.
Macau, a city that flourished as a trading post with a unique Portuguese-Chinese population and cultural heritage during 442 years of colonial rule, officially became a part of China on December 20, 1999. Since then, it has evolved into the world’s leading casino hub based on gaming revenue and has emerged as a popular destination for Chinese tourists.
