A woman was recently hospitalized in Thailand after receiving a botox treatment that resulted in suspected botulism. The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) issued a reminder to the public to only seek botox injections from registered doctors to avoid such incidents.

The 34-year-old woman, who is currently in stable condition, received the botox injection in Bangkok and experienced dizziness and weakness days later. She was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital after struggling with swallowing and breathing difficulties, as well as chest pains. Unfortunately, she was unable to verify the qualifications of the individual who administered the botox injection.

According to the CHP, in Hong Kong, botulinum toxin injections should only be performed by doctors who are locally registered. It is crucial for customers to confirm the full name of the doctor against the list of registered doctors provided by the Medical Council of Hong Kong, along with checking their professional qualifications and experience.

Furthermore, the CHP emphasized the importance of ensuring that the person administering botox injections outside of Hong Kong is properly qualified. This incident serves as a cautionary tale for individuals seeking cosmetic treatments abroad, highlighting the risks associated with receiving medical procedures from unregistered or inexperienced practitioners.

When considering botox treatments, it is essential to prioritize safety and quality by conducting thorough research on the credentials of the healthcare professionals involved. By following the guidelines set forth by regulatory bodies and seeking treatment from reputable providers, individuals can minimize the potential risks and complications associated with cosmetic procedures.

It is crucial for individuals to prioritize their health and well-being when seeking cosmetic treatments, and to always prioritize safety and quality over convenience or cost. By taking proactive measures to verify the qualifications of healthcare providers and ensuring that treatments are administered in a safe and regulated manner, individuals can protect themselves from potential harm and complications.
