The gym branch in Wan Chai, previously operated by Physical Fitness, has undergone a second name change from “Healthy” to “perFIT”. This change occurred after the medical beauty company perFACE expressed interest in taking over the recently closed gym chain.
perFACE plans to open two “perFIT” fitness centers at the former Physical branches in Wan Chai and Mong Kok. Additionally, the company is considering operating the remaining Physical branches at their original locations and opening new gym centers. Currently, perFACE is in the process of interviewing over 700 employees from PHYSICAL Fitness & Beauty, with the goal of eventually hiring all of them as business conditions improve.
Luis, a customer who had signed a three-year contract with the now-closed Physical Fitness chain, expressed his optimism about a new company taking over the gym. He mentioned that there hasn’t been much information provided to customers yet, but he hopes that the new company will honor existing memberships.
Another customer named Ko, who signed a membership contract in March, welcomed the news of a potential reopening under new investors. Despite concerns about the reputation of the gym chain, Ko stated that as long as the gym remains open, he will continue to use it.
Two individuals were arrested by customs officers in connection with the closure of the Physical Fitness gym chain following numerous complaints. Gilly Wong, Chief Executive of the Consumer Council, urged perFACE to accommodate all former Physical Fitness customers, including those who may have signed new agreements with “Healthy”. The Consumer Council has received over 5,000 complaints related to the shutdown of Physical Fitness, resulting in a loss of nearly HK$200 million.
In light of these developments, it is crucial for perFACE to address the concerns of all affected customers in a compassionate manner. By taking a human approach and ensuring a smooth transition for existing members, perFACE can rebuild trust and restore the reputation of the fitness centers. The reopening of the gyms under the new name “perFIT” presents an opportunity for customers to continue their fitness journey with renewed hope and confidence.
