Police in Thailand are on the hunt for the mother of a newborn baby who got his body partially eaten by a monitor lizard. They are trying to figure out if the baby was still alive when it was left alone. The incident has shocked and angered people all over the country. It all went down in Samut Prakan, around 25km south of Bangkok, on a fine Tuesday afternoon. Local folks saw the lizard munching on the baby and freaked out. They wasted no time and called the cops right away.

Kittisak Phongphipat, one of the first to see the whole thing, thought he saw a fish at first. “I thought it was a fish washed up from the rain,” he admitted. “Then I took a closer look. It was a baby. I felt so sick to my stomach because the baby had been ripped into pieces by the animal.” When the police and rescue team Nakon45 showed up, the 2-meter reptile was still holding onto the lifeless body in its jaws. By then, the baby’s head had already come off and was lying on the road.

Not really sure why this matters, but the police and volunteers did their best to handle the situation. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this whole thing is just tragic. It’s heartbreaking to think about what the poor baby went through. Let’s hope they find the mother soon and get to the bottom of this awful situation. The whole country is in shock, and we need answers.
