Urgent repairs are currently underway on a water pipe that supplies fresh water to the residents of Tung Chung. The water supply to the area was halted at 10 pm on Sunday, with plans to gradually restore it by Monday morning, as announced by the Water Supplies Department.
The repair work is being conducted on a 1,200-millimeter-diameter fresh-water pipe near the Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works due to an operational incident. This particular pipe is crucial for providing water not only to Tung Chung but also to Hong Kong International Airport, Tai Ho, and Discovery Bay.
To facilitate the repairs, part of Cheung Tung Road has been cordoned off by officials. In the meantime, the Water Supplies Department has arranged for water trucks and water tanks to be deployed to the area to offer a temporary water supply to affected residents and businesses.
In response to the situation, the department has reached out to the Tung Chung district councillor and care team to provide assistance to those impacted by the water suspension. Residents, like Mr. Cheung, have had to make adjustments to their daily routines, with some resorting to buying water from the market and boiling water at home for essential needs.
Despite the water supply interruption, the Hospital Authority has assured the public that the North Lantau Hospital in Tung Chung will continue its operations without any disruption.
As the repairs progress and water supply is gradually restored, residents are advised to conserve water and make necessary arrangements to cope with the temporary inconvenience. The Water Supplies Department is working diligently to resolve the issue promptly and minimize the impact on the community.
