A new project in Tai Hang will soon launch to encourage residents to recycle their food waste. The initiative, sponsored by the government’s Environment and Conservation Fund, will focus on 40 older single-block buildings and three-nil buildings in the area.
The project will introduce five smart bins with a purple color scheme in Tai Hang from November to September. These bins will have special features like fill-level detection and auto-deodorization to make the recycling process more efficient.
Jeff Wong from The New People’s Party, who is involved in the project, mentioned that a street station will also be set up to collect food waste twice a week. The goal is to have 700 to 1,000 households participate in the recycling scheme.
In addition to setting up the smart bins, the organisers plan to hold various activities and events like talks and workshops to educate residents on how to use the recycling system effectively. This comprehensive approach aims to promote sustainability and reduce waste in the community.
Previously, a pilot scheme was conducted last December where smart food waste recycling bins were installed in selected private housing estates. The success of this pilot program has paved the way for the upcoming project in Tai Hang, showcasing the importance of community involvement in promoting environmental conservation.
This initiative not only aims to reduce food waste but also serves as a platform to raise awareness about sustainable practices and encourage residents to actively participate in creating a greener environment for future generations. Through education, engagement, and innovative technology, the project in Tai Hang is set to make a positive impact on waste management and sustainability efforts in the community.
