Hong Kong’s immigration boss is all like, “Yeah, I totally saw this coming,” when talking about snooker superstar Ronnie O’Sullivan possibly moving to the Middle East. The player got residency there through some talent thingy last year. Director of immigration Benson Kwok Joon-fung spilled the tea on Sunday after O’Sullivan hinted in an interview post-World Championship that he might switch up his residency. Kwok admitted Hong Kong’s got some tough competition when it comes to attracting top talent. He also mentioned that the 49-year-old seven-time world champ has a snooker academy in Dubai and that he respects his decision. “It’s not really a shocker that he’d want to grow in the Middle East. But he’s also been getting ready to open his own snooker academy and club in Hong Kong,” Kwok spilled on a radio show. “He hasn’t been able to come back in the past few months to prep for his new projects and life here, so we might have to wait a bit for his final decision on where he’ll live.”
Since he went pro in 1992, O’Sullivan has snagged 41 ranking tournament titles. Kwok also mentioned that ever since they got those talent policies in 2022, the department has given the thumbs up to over 310,000 applications. About 400,000 to 500,000 peeps have made their way to Hong Kong, including the fam of the main applicants.
I’m not really sure why this matters, but Kwok said, “Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like we might have to wait a bit longer for O’Sullivan to make up his mind about where he wants to live.” Sounds like he’s got a lot on his plate right now, so who knows when he’ll be back in Hong Kong for good.
Alright, let’s see what happens with this whole residency situation.
