Hong Kong recently held the first ever Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Lawyers Exchange Reception, which saw over 150 legal professionals from mainland China, Macau, and Hong Kong in attendance. Among the guests was Director-General of the Department of Justice of Guangdong, Chen Xudong.
During the event, Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung emphasized the importance of establishing a platform that allows the legal industry to actively participate in the development of the bay area. This initiative is a key component of the Department of Justice’s Action Plan on the Construction of Rule of Law in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. The goal of this platform is to bring together the professional expertise of legal services and leverage the unique strengths of lawyers in the GBA.
Cheung also highlighted the upcoming launch of the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Academy, which is part of the efforts to fully utilize the institutional advantages of the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. This academy, along with the newly established platform, will further enhance Hong Kong’s position as a legal hub in the Greater Bay Area.
The exchange reception provided a valuable opportunity for legal professionals from different regions to network, share insights, and collaborate on future initiatives. It also signifies a step towards greater integration and cooperation within the legal sectors of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The event serves as a testament to the commitment of all parties involved in promoting legal cooperation and development in the Greater Bay Area. By fostering closer ties and facilitating knowledge exchange, the legal community in the region is poised to thrive and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the area.
Moving forward, it is essential for stakeholders to continue working together to build a strong legal foundation that supports the sustainable development of the Greater Bay Area. Through collaboration, innovation, and mutual respect, the legal professions in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau can create a more interconnected and dynamic legal ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders involved.
