Hong Kong Cinema Day is coming up, and tickets are selling for a measly HK$30 on May 7. The Hong Kong Theatres Association, expecting a crowd of 200,000 movie buffs, is hosting this event to give back to society. The chairman, Timothy Yuen Yin-man, blamed the 65% drop in box office revenue over Easter on people either leaving Hong Kong or spending their money overseas. Additionally, he mentioned that last year’s Easter had fan-oriented films like We 12, unlike this year.
