The Eco-Friendly Wine and Dine Festival in Hong Kong kicked off with a longer duration and a greener approach. The event opened on Wednesday and will run for five days, compared to the previous four-day format. Locals and tourists gathered at the harbourfront to enjoy a wide array of culinary delights and exquisite wines.

Acting Financial Secretary Michael Wong addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of enjoying the wines responsibly. He highlighted Hong Kong’s position as a global wine hub, offering wine enthusiasts a diverse selection from around the world. The festival’s expansion to five days allows for more time to savor the offerings.

In a commitment to sustainability, the organizers have implemented measures to reduce waste. Disposable plastic cups are no longer allowed at the venue, aligning with the government’s efforts to eliminate single-use plastics. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own glasses or can purchase one on-site for HK$50.

Tourism chief Kevin Yeung extended invitations to hundreds of tourists arriving on cruises to participate in the festival. Shuttle buses are also available between the venue and the Shenzhen Bay checkpoint to facilitate cross-border visitors. The event, organized by the Tourism Board, boasts over 300 booths showcasing food and beverages from 35 countries and regions.

Attendees, like Bayley from the United States, praised the organization of the festival, noting the comprehensive offerings of wine and food. German tourist Tanja expressed her excitement at the abundance of experiences the festival offers, indicating a desire to return for more exploration.

For Anton, a German expat in Hong Kong, the highlight of the fair was the variety of wines available. He was pleasantly surprised by the turnout on the opening night, considering it was a weekday and many attendees had work the next morning.

The festival serves as a celebration of sustainability, bringing together individuals to enjoy environmentally conscious practices while indulging in the pleasures of fine dining and wine appreciation.
