The Consumer Council raised concerns about former members of Physical Fitness gym being approached by perFIT, a new operator taking over the business. They are offering free access to reopened locations in Mong Kok and Wan Chai, along with any remaining private training sessions, but with conditions.
Members must sign an agreement that only allows free access for up to three years, after which a monthly fee will be charged. Additionally, the consent form requires granting perFIT access to previous contracts and personal information. Gilly Wong, the council’s chief executive, warned that some former Physical Fitness members faced significant losses exceeding HK$100,000, urging affected individuals to carefully consider their personal situation and legal rights before signing any agreements.
Wong emphasized that each individual’s situation is unique, with factors such as package details, class schedules, and membership expiration dates playing a role in decision-making. While those with shorter terms and lower amounts may find the new proposal acceptable, customers with larger investments and longer durations, including multiple private classes, should seek personalized advice.
The council is actively engaging in discussions with perFIT to find a fair resolution for all parties involved. It is essential for former members to assess the terms and implications of any new agreements before committing to avoid potential risks or financial losses. Stay informed and make informed decisions to protect your interests when considering gym membership transfers.
