Hong Kong is gearing up to play a key role in organising the cross-border events of the National Games, as announced by organisers recently. The upcoming National Games, scheduled to take place from November 9 to 21 next year, will see Hong Kong collaborating with Guangdong and Macau to co-host the prestigious event for the very first time.
During a countdown press conference, Yeung Tak-keung, the head of the event’s coordination office, revealed that Hong Kong will not only be hosting eight competitions but will also be assisting in organising the athletics marathon to be hosted by Shenzhen, as well as the road cycling event to be hosted by Zhuhai.
Gao Chao, the director of the General Administration of Sport of China, mentioned that Guangzhou and Shenzhen have already finalized the plans for the opening and closing ceremonies of the games. Additionally, authorities are currently working on mapping out the route for the torch relay, adding to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the event.
Cui Jian, the director of the sports bureau in Guangdong, shared that the renovation and construction of venues in the province are set to be completed by March next year. This timely completion will ensure that the venues are ready to host the various sporting events and accommodate athletes, officials, and spectators from around the region.
